In Home Postpartum Session in Oregon - The Casey’s
In Home Postpartum Session in Portland, OR // Meet the Casey’s
I was flown out to Portland, Oregon to document ‘the early days’ for this new family. I spent two nights with them in their Portland home and documented what their Postpartum looked like for an entire day.
Postpartum Sessions are about documenting your routines. So that I can show you what you look like doing the mundane tasks that will eventually consume your life and put you on auto-pilot. Being on auto-pilot always has me feeling like I am living outside of my body. My Postpartum Sessions are to help ground you again. To keep you in your body the next time you find yourself doing the same dance you’ve always done. So that you remember that whatever it is that you’re doing; whether it’s changing a diaper, wiping a butt, breastfeeding in the dark, lounging in your matching diaper; it’s all fucking magical. It’s true what they say, the magic is in the little things. The mundane. The ordinary. It’s these ordinary tasks that make up the majority of our lives.
Listen, I know you’re tired. Beyond tired. You or your partner might be healing from birth, while also getting to know your new baby. Your hormones might be putting you through the ringer, making everyone and everything around you annoying as shit. You might be getting to know the darkest corners of yourself for the very first time and that shit is overwhelming. These first weeks of having your new and beautiful baby might also feel like the hardest weeks of your life. And I believe there is beauty in all of that, too. I’m not afraid of your shadows, or the dark corners of your house. It doesn’t matter to me which road your Postpartum journey is leading you down, I’ll come to your house for a day and walk along side you, documenting you, witnessing you. I’ll take these photos that will one day help remind you of the ashes you were born from, the dark days where life began to grow from the rubble. Because there is rubble; sometimes Birth forces our fortresses to come crashing down. These days are hard. Being born is hard; you and your child are learning that together.
So trust me to capture you honestly. Let me witness you and remind you of what you already know. Your life is beautiful. Not because it’s easy or comes naturally to you, your life is beautiful because it’s real, it’s hard, and you’re doing it.
