A Surprise Proposal in Malibu | Sadie + Courtney

When Covid hit, my business came to a halt. No one was going near each other. So, I started offering quick 10-minute sessions I called Porch-traits. Where all you had to do was come out to your front porch and I’d photograph you from the street.

This is how I met Sadie.

I photographed her with her girlfriend Courtney and her son Jett. Six months later, Sadie gives me a call to tell me she is about to propose to Courtney, and she wants me to document it. This would be my first time photographing a surprise engagement. I normally photograph families, but how could I pass up an opportunity to document love?

And let me tell you, do Courtney and Sadie have love. It’s the type of love that keeps the people around them warm. A love that makes you want to be a part of it, like family. They so quickly made me feel a part of theirs.
